The spinning top is fitted into the starting mechanism. By turning the top the rubber bands can be pre-tensioned and will then accelerate the top when started. To start the spinning top, you need to press it down at the dowel, so it disengages from the starting mechanism.
Just let it spin – you might need a couple of tries to get it started smoothly, but once it's going it's a lot of fun.
The spinning top itself is modular, so you can print it in different colors or make the disk a little heavier for even better performance.
The rubber band starting mechanism is designed for standard rubber bands. If you ever manage to strip the anchor points (or just want extra security), don't worry – there are holes for M3 bolts, so you won't need to reprint the piece.
The center spinning piece is best printed with support, but it'll still work with some quick cleanup if you forget to enable it ;)
