Adenovirus are encoded by a single linear, double-stranded DNA genome of ~36,000 basepairs. Adenoviruses most often cause the common cold. The viral particles are naked icosahedral capsids of 70-90 nm in diameter.

This viral capsid is based on the crystal structure solved by Natchier et al., 2018. Journal of Molecular Biology (PDB: 6CGV). The Adenovirus 5 fibers are not resolved in any available structures, so three copies (trimers) of the protein sequence were predicted using AlphaFold3, and modelled into the capsid.

Virion model was printed at 125% scale, 0.1mm height with organic supports, and 10% gyroid infill. The fibers (protrusions) are printed separately at 100% rectilinear infill in the horizontal orientation to maximize strength (they broke off otherwise). The stand is a geometric shape, and the virion STL at 126%-scale is subtracted from the shape to provide a snug fit.
