Filament Labelling System 2

A clip to prevent unravelling of partially used filament rolls that can also be used to record the amount left on the roll (weight in grams) .

Original version at:
https://www.printables.com/model/176195-filament-labelling-system

Files:

p0 to p9 (and blank) - tiles that slip into the clip to mark grams remaining on roll
clip_new – IMPROVED - keeps the filament from unravelling and
holds the digit tiles (up to 4 digits, ie: 1 to 9999 g)
clip_2 – NEW – as per the clip_new, above but will snap into…
gripper – to snap onto the frame of your Prusa i3 Mk3
plattens_4_each - 4 of each digit (ie:  4 x 0s, 4 x 1s, 4 x 2s, etc) - a total of 36 tiles
blank - for inserting at the end (or start)of the clip for all you OCD peeps

Material:  PLA, ABS, PTEG, etc
Layer height:  .15 mm
Infill:  10%
Brim and supports:  None

The new clip version has a rounded, finer edge for slipping under the filament on the roll.

The clip_2 will snap into the slot of the gripper – use the digit tiles to keep a running total of the filament left on the current roll.  When you remove this roll of filament transfer the digits to the clip and secure the loose end.

Note that you will only need 1 gripper and clip_2 for the frame (or 1 for each roll on a multi-filament setup) and 1 clip or clip_new for each partial roll of filament.

Finishing Hint:

Print in a dark colour then ‘float’ light coloured paint (acrylic or other waterproof medium) into the recessed digit.  Let dry completely.  Sand face down to remove the  paint for nice crisp digits.

Usage Hint:

To determine the amount of filament left on a spool, most manufacturers will have a tech-specs page with the weight of an empty spool.  Use this or weigh an identical empty spool and subtract that figure from the weighed partial spool.

Once the weight of the filament on a spool is known you can use your slicers' weight calculation and subtract that after each print.  Should be fairly accurate but I haven't tested it right down to empty!

Regards, Paul
