My Sennheiser HD598 worked flawlessly for 13 years, but unfortunately, the left driver died. I couldn't find original drivers for sale, so I bought some generic drivers from a Chinese marketplace.
Both the stock HD598 driver and the generic one are 40mm, but the stock one has a custom embedded outer mounting shell, making the mounting diameter somewhere around 42.2mm. I initially had to apply a lot of silicone to secure the new drivers in their housing, but due to air gaps and a loose fit, the sound was horrible.
With this adapter ring, the drivers sit firmly in the housing - you just need to apply a small amount of silicone. The sound is much better than without adapter ring.
I made this adapter ring for my drivers, the Elfinear CarbonGild (the inner diameter for a firm fit is 40.1mm), so feel free to remix this model for your own needs.
