I built a Mini Drift Trike as shown in this video:

I'm sharing the 3D models I used for this build, for you to build your own. I'm not going to provide a detailed build description, but hopefully the video describe the main steps to do.

DISCLAIMER: These motors are surprisingly strong, especially when used by kids - I strongly advise to do make a kids mode as I did to lower the power a bit. Please use with care and make sure the brakes work.

Parts needed:

  • Kids bike (try to get one with brakes on front wheel)

  • 9mm plywood

  • Hoverboard

  • Throttle handle

  • 6mm Carriage bolts to sandwich the plates

  • Various bolts/screws

  • XIAO microcontroller

  • DC-DC Traco Power TSR 1-2450

  • Switch/pushbutton

  • PVC pipe for drifting

  • 608 bearings if you do wheelie wheel or printed rim

General Info / Tips:

  • I printed all in PETG

  • I have 48cm width on plywood, depends on your bike frame width

  • Use drill template to cut and drill plywood

  • PVC drifting is off course optional, it works nice as a regular trike aswell

  • I used a PVC pipe with 20cm outer diameter

  • The battery emg switch shown in video did not work long. Replaced with a main switch, see pictures

  • Frame cover optional, depends on your battery cut off switch

  • You need a battery cut off switch, as battery sometimes cuts on fuse and need a disconnect

  • Reverse switch on handle is optional, not really in use

  • Make sure to get correct hoverboard generation, as there is different mainboards out there.

  • Be very careful handling the mainboard, even when battery disconnected. I broke a mainboard by shorting when connecting the programming wires - I guess capacitor voltage alone was enough.

  • I printed the seat on a Bambu Lab X1C (larger bed)

  • SteerinStop is to mount on bike to stop steering to rotate and break wiring

  • You need to drill some holes under seat to fit over the nuts (dependent of your bike size)

  • You find wiring diagram and code here:  https://github.com/TheSkjegg/MiniDriftTrike

Would be awsome to see someone build this, its a lot of fun to drive!
