This is a modified version of the PAC-12 antenna, with the design idea of using the least number of fasteners or other parts to reduce weight. Reducing the number of parts to purchase may also be less costly, require less tools to build, and lend itself to requiring less tools for field fixes or changes.
NOTE: Build guide is attached as a PDF
Some of the changes from my previous antenna -
Radials: All of the radial lugs have been removed in favor of a loop of wire and radials with alligator clips. The screw terminal lugs contributed a substantial amount of weight as well as a failure point when hardware came loose or lost. Alligator clips can be attached at both ends of the radial allowing two radials to be clipped together for additional length as well as redundancy in the event of a clip failing. Additionally the alligator clip radials still lend themselves to being attached to M4 lugs previously used. Adding radial length may be desirable for tuning lower bands.
Coil: I am including both an open and shrouded guide coil. The shrouded guide requires a substantial amount of additional time to wind. It reduces issues with the turns being popped out of the guides during transport. The coil is longer than is needed for my components to allow for re-purposing or changing length configuration however a user might want to do their version.
Base: The base is now circular to reduce corners since a flat surface for a screw terminal is not used. There are two versions. One where the feed line connects directly into the base and the other having a BNC connector. The attached feed line version is an extension of parts / weight reduction idea, which also helps offset forgetting a length of coax. It does mean you are limited to the attached cable and cables seem to wear out and fail more than the rest of the antenna components do.
