This is an attempt to recreate the Robinson R-22 cyclic stick. This is designed as an adapter for the Virpil WarBRD-D but will also work with any stick that is compatible with a Thrustmaster Warthog stick base.
This is an abortive project because, while it more or less works, I am not happy with it and I have thus shelved the project for the foreseeable future. I welcome anyone who wishes to pick this up and make it better. To this end, I have included the .3mf files so that it can all be edited using Fusion. I have included all of the parts that I have played around with including some ideas that I discarded. My best solution so far was using one of the pivots with the female socket, this seems to reduce the rotation force on the vertical pipe.
Included are my 3D printed parts but you will also need some 22mm copper pipe (or other pipe of the same diameter) and a piece of 26mm tube (such as used for shower rails) for the handle, some nuts and bolts, and some foam to go around the 26mm pipe to make it more realistic. Obviously, if you have Fusion, you will be able to go back through the design and tweak it to your own specifications. I used 22mm copper pipe because it's what I had lying around and 26mm tubing because I had already got some with the foam grip on it from a previous project. You will also need some 2mm rod or tubing to chop into small lengths (1-2mm) to act as teeth at the bottom of the upright connector to stop it from rotating on the base.
The main issue that I run into with this design is trying to prevent the horizontal control bar rotating around the vertical control bar. I have tried bolting it, but I can't things tight enough to completely remove rotation and I have tried gluing it but it tends to unstick. If I pick this up again, I will play around with the lengths of the vertical and horizontal bars to see if I can reduce the stress on the upright and feel more realistic. Please let me know if you make an improvement to this, I would love to see your fixes.
