This is a simple head brace you can use to position a model and keep their head still during a multi-second exposure.  The fixed arm has a printed baby pin built into it which will slide right into a C stand grip arm.

Parts list:

  • 1x fixed arm (fixed_arm.step fits 1/4-20 bolts, fixed_arm_6mm.stepfits M6)

  • 1x mobile arm (mobile_arm.step fits 1/4-20 bolts, mobile_arm_6mm.step fits M6)

  • 2x head pad (print in TPU)

  • 1x bolt, recommended 1/4-20x1.25" for imperial, M6x30 metric

  • 1x nut matching bolt, recommended wing nut or star knob

Print both arms in their default orientation.  The fixed arm will probably be a little messy in the indentation for the bolt head, but you can clean that out easy enough and it will be hidden by the bolt.  Seat the bolt in the fixed arm, it should be a snug press fit with no tools required to insert or remove the bolt.  Then fit the mobile arm onto the bolt so that the rosettes on the circular portion of each arm interface with each other.  Add your nut of choice on the outside, and you can now easily adjust the angle/width of the arms by loosening the nut and then secure them by tightening it back down.  The head pads should be printed in TPU for comfort, and they fit over the ends of the arms.

To use, simply insert the printed baby pin into a grip arm and position so the head pads rest at the base of your subject's skull.  You may wish to increase the infill on the baby pin portion of the print, just to reduce the chances that you'll accidentally crush it in your grip arm.

Note that I didn't make any particular effort to design this in a clean parametric fashion, so I can't make any promises about how easy the FreeCAD file will be to modify.  But it's there if you want to give it a try.
