Threaded Inserts

The Tooldock Adapter uses self-tapping threaded inserts. These are more precise than heat set inserts and only require a screwdriver to be installed.

  • Stainless Steel Self-Tapping

    • Inner Thread Size: M3 x 0.5mm

    • Outer Thread Size: M5 x 0.5mm

    • Thread Length: 5 mm

Helper Tool

There don't seem to be any official installation tools available, however: all you need is a screw and a nut, and a good electric screwdriver if you don't want to end up in physical therapy because you messed up your wrist. My Fanttik NEX E2 Ultra served me well, although occasionaly an additional manual driver with an SL3 bit (3mm wide flat-head/slotted) was necessary in high-torque situations.

Required Hardware
  • 1x M3x18mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

  • 1x M3x6mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

  • 2x M3 Square Nut

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

Assembly

Simply screw the screws all thew ay through the nuts. That's it. Your Threaded Inserts Insertion Helper Tools are ready to go!

Thread Installation

Identify your hole. For through holes, use the long helper tool. For blind holes, use the short helper tool. Also, get familiar with the details of your hole: is the threded insert supposed to sit flush or will it need to be recessed into the part? These instructions and the 3D file itself will help you learn more about each specific hole.

Screw the helper tool all the way through the threaded insert with the slot facing the nut. Then align the threaded insert along the axis of the hole (usually perpendicular to the part's surface). Now carefully screw the threaded insert into the hole. Don't overtighten it, you risk stripping the threads in the plastic part.

Once inserted, unscrew the helper tool. If the nut is stuck, give it a a little bit of incentive with small pliers or a 5.5mm wrench. If the threaded insert comes out alongside the helper tool, use the pliers/wrench to hold the nut in place and only remove the screw. Reassemble the helper tool again afterwards.

If your hole requires the threaded insert to be recessed into the part, use a SL3 bit (3mm wide flat-head/slotted) to screw the insert deeper into the part. Here, an electric screwdriver might not have enough torque and you have to screw it in manually. However, make sure you know how deep the insert is supposed to go into the part. Be careful: do not overtighten it!

Camera Enclosure

1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_buddy_camera_top
1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_buddy_camera_bottom
1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_buddy_camera_lid

The Prusa Buddy3D Camera does not fit anymore once the Tooldock Adapter is installed. This is a remix that allows the camera to integrate with this C1L INDX mod.

Required Hardware
  • Additional magnet(s), supports up to

    • 10mm wide

    • 4mm thick

    • 7mm tall

Assembly

Dismalntle the Buddy3D Camera: remove all eight screws, charge port, main PCB, speaker, LED ring the four magnets. Dispose of all three printed parts. Install speaker and LED ring into buddy_camera_top.

Screw main PCB onto buddy_camera_top, and linstall charge port into  buddy_camera_bottom. With two screws, fasten buddy_camera_bottom onto buddy_camera_top. Now insert two of the original magnets back into the top slot. Your additional magnet(s) goes in the bottom slot!

Use the remaining two screws to fasten the buddy_camera_tod onto buddy_camera_bottom. You should have two of the original magnets left over. These are needed for the C1 Tooldock Adapter top brackets.

The top threaded insert sits flush while the other 5 sit 3mm below the surface.

Magnets

Place the two Buddy3D Camera magnets on the outside of the fully assembled C1L INDX Camera housing like shown in the first picture - make sure they don't sit closer to the top right screw as depicted. Then label the top magnet with a vertical line through the center. Thake the two magnets without separating them and insert them into the Top Left Bracket so that the vertical line is visible on the magnet that is inserted last. Finally, screw the small triangular piece into place with the M3x4mm screw to prevent the magnets from falling out.

Installation

The M3x7mm top screws fasten from the outside of the enclosure, install it first. Make sure to firmly secure the screw. Then install the M3x12mm front screw from the inside of the enclosure. The end of the screw should be visible from the outside, filling the thread and sitting flush with the frame.

Installation

Both screws fasten from the inside of the enclosure. Install M3x7mm top screw first - use a short screw driver/Allen wrench (that can sit perfectly perpendicular) at first. Make sure to firmly secure the screw. Then install the M3x12mm front screw. The end of the screw should be visible from the outside, filling the thread and sitting flush with the frame.

Bottom Brackets

Light Bar

Out with the old

Turn off the power to the printer. Remove the old M3x4rT screws that hold the metal light bar (LED panel) in place. Keep the screws. Careful: the light bar is attached to an LED strip with a very short cable.

Fully remove the LED strip from the metal bar. Be gentle. Do not damage the LED strip.

In with the new

1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_C1_tooldock_adapter_LIGHT_BAR (SUPPORTS NEEDED!)

Required Hardware
  • 4x Self-Tapping Threaded Inserts

    • Inner Thread Size: M3 x 0.5mm

    • Outer Thread Size: M5 x 0.5mm

    • Thread Length: 5 mm

  • 2x M3x7mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

The side inserts sit flush. The two other inserts on the top sit almost flush, at a very slight angle under the surface.

Install the top threadshalf way with the long helper tool, then use the SL3 bit (3mm wide flat-head/slotted) to screw them in all the way. They must sit at a slight angle, perpendicular to the backside of the light bar, and not stick out of the hole.

For the two side inserts, use the short helper tool.

Stick the LED strip onto the new light bar. The strip should be centered on the bar, and the black insulated ends should cover the threaded inserts.

You can use new thin (LCD screen repair) double-sided tape if the strip is not sticky anymore.

Install the left end cap (part of the print file) with a M3x7mm screw. This holds the cable tight to the light bar so that it does not interfere with the print head or tools.

Install the right end cap (part of the print file) with a M3x7mm screw. This holds the end of the LED strip in place so that it does not curl up and interferes with the print head or tools.

Installation of the light bar follows after the left/right bottom brackets are installed.

Required Hardware
  • 6x Self-Tapping Threaded Inserts

    • Inner Thread Size: M3 x 0.5mm

    • Outer Thread Size: M5 x 0.5mm

    • Thread Length: 5 mm

  • 1x M3x12mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

Only one threaded insert sits flush (second from the bottom on the edge) while the other 5 sit 2-3mm below the surface.

1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_C1_tooldock_adapter_BOTTOM_RIGHT

Required Hardware
  • 6x Self-Tapping Threaded Inserts

    • Inner Thread Size: M3 x 0.5mm

    • Outer Thread Size: M5 x 0.5mm

    • Thread Length: 5 mm

  • 1x M3x12mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Cap Head

Only one threaded insert sits flush (second from the bottom on the edge) while the other 5 sit 2-3mm below the surface.

Installation

The two brackets install symmetrically. Slide them over the front bar of the CoreXY assembly (from the inside) and align the lower hole with the thread in the front bar (the first picture shows the alignment of the right bottom bracket). Now push hard from the back while you slowly fasten the M3x12mm screw. Careful: the bar as well as the bottom bracket have threads, which is not ideal. You have to make sure that bar and bracket are as flush as possible as the screw will not pull the bar and bracket together! (Do the same for the other side.)

Now secure the light bar with

  • M3x12mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Cap Head

The bar screws into the center of the front of the CoreXY assembly, from the inside. The screw should sit flush with the CoreXY assembly once fully secured.

Side Brackets

1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_C1_tooldock_adapter_SIDE_LEFT
1x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_C1_tooldock_adapter_SIDE_RIGHT

Required Hardware
  • 16x M3x12mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

Installation

Place the side brackets between top and bottom brackets. Make sure they align. Tolerances are very tight and you might have to square your frame a bit to make everything fit.

Use 8 M3x12mm screws to secure the side brackets in place. First fasten the screws loosely, then tighten them evenly to ensure uniform clamping. The side brackets hold top and bottom brackets together to provide a regid surface to mount the front profile to.

Nozzle Parking Plates / Tool Holders

Do not perform this step yet if you intend to keep printing with your Nextruder C1L!
The print head will run into the Nozzle Parking Plates and Tool Holders.

Parking Plates / Nozzle Seals

Required Hardware
  • 8x M3x7mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

Installation

The nozzle parking plates with installed nozzle seal screw directly into the plastic of the light bar, with no threaded inserts. Do not perform this step yet if you intend to keep printing with your Nextruder C1L!

Tool Holders

8x CORE_ONE_L_INDX_C1_tool_holder

Based on the C1 INDX R1 design, the tool mount position has been lowered by 15 mm to account for the lower print head position on the Core One L. The front profile mounting holes have been altered to M5 x 0.5mm for threaded inserts.

Required hardwere
  • 2x Self-Tapping Threaded Inserts

    • Inner Thread Size: M3 x 0.5mm

    • Outer Thread Size: M5 x 0.5mm

    • Thread Length: 5 mm

  • Original INDX Thimble (big magnet assembly)

  • Original two small magnets (that hold the tool)

  • The three original springs

Assembly instructions will follow shortly. Do not perform this step yet if you intend to keep printing with your Nextruder C1L!

Front Profile

Slide the front profile from the right into the slit of the top left bracket. Make sure the right side sits perfectly flush all the way.  The bottom of the front profile slots into a recess between the front of the CoreXY assembly and the light bar.

 Required Hardware
  • 2x M3x7mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

  • 6x M3x12mm Screw

    • Thread Pitch: 0.5mm

    • Socket Button Head

Assembly

Start with the top left corner. This one screws into the top left bracket from the inside (bottom). Use one M3x7mm screw.

The second M3x7mm screw is used to secure the top right corner into the top right bracket from the outsite (top).

All other holes (three on each side) are for M3x12mm screws. First fasten the screws loosely, then tighten them evenly to ensure uniform clamping.

The bottom screws of the front profile also clamp the light bar and bottom bracket to the front of the CoreXY assembly.

You are done!

Don't forget to eat some (vegan!) gummy candy. Like Katjes Tropen-Früchte. Also don't forget to install the Top Door Seal and the Buddy3D Camera.
