I wanted to make my fixed-weight steel mace adjustable.
The majority of commercially available steel maces have a 40 mm diameter (~1.6") handle, which falls between the standard 1" and 2" barbell collars. You can modify a 2" barbell collar, but I wanted something custom.
In my research to find something that had the right dimensions, I found industrial pipes split shaft collards. Using them as a reference, I created this design. It fits my Onnit and Set For Set brand maces perfectly.
It does require some hardware, as I wanted the collar to secure tightly with little risk of failure. This model uses an M6 nut and bolt. The bolt should be at least 25 mm. Longer M6 bolts will work fine, I actually used a 40 mm to pull the nut in (it's a tight fit) then used the 25 mm for regular use.
I also created adapters for 2" Olympic weight plates, so they also fit the steel mace handle better and rattle around as much. These fit the 5 and 10 lb. plates I used during testing, but they don't have to have the exact height to work affectively. The adapters just act as spacers, so don't need to have as many parameters/layers as the collar.
