This print worked well enough to effectively protect my good games, but it's not quite perfect. See my notes about ensuring the box is reasonably warm, and using a brim; I think both of these would help quite a bit.
If you have a copy of Metroid: Other M which your local waste disposal site will not accept, you need a way to store it without contaminating nearby objects. This print-in-place device can be used to seal away the hazardous material, until trained personnel can be arranged for proper disposal.
This device could also store other contaminants such as Gal Gun, Armageddon, and Corky Romano. Appropriate labelling is highly recommended.
Printing Notes
When handling Metroid: Other M, always wear:
Gloves
Eye protection
Hearing protection
Breathing protection
CSA approved steel-toed boots
A full length lead-lined apron
A hard hat
A high visibility jacket
A HANS device
A Hans
A cowboy hat
The safest option is to use the fully enclosed print-in-place version. Alternatively, a version is provided which is just a sleeve. This provides protection against most forms of touch contamination, but will not prevent airborne spread. This version is not recommended for long-term storage.
To print the fully enclosed, safe containment device:
Print the spacer plate.
Slice the containment device
In the oritentation provided.
With no supports.
Using filament that you know to be very reliable and low-fuss.
With a pause just before the top begins printing.
Optional: with ironing. It didn't quite work out in my case, but I think that's because I had been fussing with the fan speed. The top looked better for me before it ironed, but there are individual lines of ironing that look a lot bette
Suggestion: with a brim and/or a hotter than normal build plate temp. I noticed the corners started to lift after I insterted the hazard, I think it introduced a lot of cold thermal mass which caused the warping. Keeping the hazard in the chamber during printing to bring it up to temperature might have helped as well.
At the pause, insert the hazardous material, then the spacer plate.
Optional????: Put a thin piece of double sided tape in-between just to stop the spacer from moving around.
Resume the print.
Print and insert the hazard warning label. Glue recommended.
Printing demonstrated here:
To print the unsafe containment sleeve, I'd suggest printing in the provided orientation using thick bridges, and adding paint-on supports for the lip that holes the label. However, I have not printed this model (I take hazardous material storage seriously.
