This is (yet another) ant moat designed to create a barrier that prevents ants from reaching your hummingbird feeder. Simply fill it with water and hang it inline above the feeder.
Design Goals
Allow the moat to be filled with water before hanging it, without needing to tilt it and risk spilling.
Allow the hummingbird feeder to be attached after the moat is hanging, without tilting the feeder and potentially spilling nectar.
Eliminate the need for additional hooks or wire.
I couldn't find a downloadable design that met all of these requirements, so I created my own.
Printing Recommendations
Depending on your climate and where the feeder will be hung, I recommend printing this model in a UV and heat-resistant filament such as PETG or ASA.
For the cleanest appearance, I printed mine with the seam location set to Random, which eliminates the visible seam line on the curved exterior.
I printed it with 2 wall loops, and it has worked well for me. However, increasing this to 4 wall loops adds only about 3 grams of material while providing additional strength to the hanging rod, making it more resistant to accidental bending from side loads.
