A sculpture of Medusa, the Gorgon—a monstrous mythological creature from ancient Greece, a woman with snakes for hair and a gaze that turned anyone who met it to stone. She meets her end at the hands of Perseus, who manages to outwit her by distracting her and causing her to see her own reflection in his shield.
