A simple yet effective spool holder which reuses BoxTurtle idlers. I'd been using https://www.printables.com/model/957440-tush-the-ultimate-spool-holder for the past 5 years but recently I encountered an issue with a cardboard spool wedging itself between the bearing and the plastic border mid print. The BoxTurtle idlers I already had are self centering and well guarded which avoids that problem altogether
Print 1 holder tray in hard plastic, and 4 feet in TPU or equivalent anti-slip. Uses less than 20g of plastic if you already have the BoxTurtle idlers.
Sized to fit on a Voron v0 12x12cm print bed.
Printed mine in ABS + TPU for the 4 feet. If the feet don't clip in nicely, use a 2mm drill bit to manually get the 8 underside holes to size. Use shrinkage compensated print settings so the part prints to size, like BoxTurtle print settings.
If you don't already have the idlers:
BoxTurtle parts to print: https://github.com/ArmoredTurtle/BoxTurtle/tree/main/STLs/Base_Build/Idlers
4 x [a]_idler_roller_x8.stl
2 x idler_threaded_joint_x4.stl
Plus 4 MR148zz bearings.
This is very similar to tons of other existing concepts but allowed me to reuse parts I already had from a BoxTurtle. BoxTurtle is a amazing project btw!
