The Rhinoceros 3D Alias Macropad is a compact input device designed to streamline repetitive modeling and drafting workflows. A dedicated numerical keypad supports rapid dimensional input, while eight programmable alias keys provide quick access to twelve frequently used Rhino commands through individual and combined key functions. By placing commonly used aliases on a dedicated physical interface, the macropad supports faster command entry and a more focused production workflow.
The system uses the Adafruit QT Py ESP32-S3 WiFi Dev Board with STEMMA QT - 8 MB Flash / No PSRAM, the Adafruit I2C Stemma QT Rotary Encoder Breakout with Encoder - STEMMA QT / Qwiic(1), and the NeoKey 1x4 QT I2C - Four Mechanical Key Switches with NeoPixels - STEMMA QT / Qwiic(5). The microcontroller and breakout boards are connected via six STEMMA QT / Qwiic JST SH 4-Pin Cables (50mm long). The housing, microcontroller and breakout boards are held in place with 2.00mm screws. The device uses 20 Kailh Mechanical Key Switches - Clicky White.
The housing is printed in PETG. The housing is also printed without top and bottom layers. The infill is Gyroid. The tolerances between the top and bottom components need to be tight for a secure fit. The keycaps are printed in matte black PLA.
