I made these pieces as part of a project to help students learn about the importance of phosphate and its structural role in organic molecules. These pieces can be fit together in a chain to create a 2-D model of a single DNA or RNA strand.
There is a small hydroxide group that can be added to change the deoxyribose piece to ribose for an accurate RNA model (or to use in making other organic molecules, like ATP).
I have added a hydrogen ion and lone pair piece depending on how you'd like to represent the acid.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The arsenate tile has intentionally oversized attachment points, which was made to demonstrate the "instability" of the bonds in arsenates (to contrast with the stability of Phosphate). All other pieces have the same size of attachment point.
