Did you lose an arm of your Evil Eye sunglasses? Did you do so one day before a festival like me?
After my optician quoted me 200€ for a replacement parts with weeks of delivery time, I made this in an evening. It works just as well, it prints flat and without supports, and is only moderately ugly.
This is a right side arm, what if I lost the left one?
Just mirror it before print. But honestly, it works on both sides.
How did you get the bend in?
Printed it flat, carefully heat up the thin part with a jet lighter, candle or heat gun and bend it by hand. Then hold it in shape until it cools (Use cooling spray, a water bath or other methods if you are impatient like me)
How does it feel?
Honestly, I never felt the difference while wearing it. Attaching thin shock cord to the back is a bit of cheating though, since it does not need rubber pads to stay in place.
Is it durable?
It has survived 100+km of bikepacking and a metal festival so far. I carried a spare in case this one broke.
Does it work with other Evil Eye sunglasses?
Probably, but since I only have the Pathline, that is the only one I can check. If you try this with a different model, let me know the results.
Are there downsides to the design?
Since I was designing and printing this the night before a festival, I opted for a super simple and easy to print design. If you look at the second picture, you will see it differs a bit at the joint from the original design.
I might make a more aesthetically pleasing design in the future if this one breaks.
It also does not support the slight upward and downward angling of the original arms, but has a fixed middle position.
If this helps you, leave a like and a picture of your repaired glasses.
