This fraction pie puzzle helps kids understand fractions in a hands-on way. The pie pieces (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7 and 1/8) fit onto the base plate and can be combined freely – making it instantly clear that two quarters equal one half, or that 1/3 + 1/6 makes half a circle. Great for elementary school, homeschooling, or simply for making math tangible.
The set includes:
1 base plate (circle with a rim)
Fraction pieces 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7, 1/8 (print as many as you need, e.g. 2× 1/2, 3× 1/3, 4× 1/4 etc. to build full circles)
The special part – colored text without a multicolor system:
The text is embedded in the model in a way that only the lettering is exposed in a single layer. When printing at 0.2 mm layer height, insert a filament change on the third-to-last layer, print that one layer in a contrasting color, then switch back to your base color for the remaining layers. The result: the whole piece stays in one color, and only the numbers show up in the second color – exactly as shown in the pictures. Just add two color changes in your slicer (M600 / "insert filament change"): one at the third-to-last layer, and one at the layer right after it to switch back. Works on any printer, no AMS or MMU required.
Recommended print settings:
Layer height: 0.2 mm (required for the text effect)
Color change: third-to-last layer only, then switch back to the base color
Infill: 10–15 %
Supports: none
Material: PLA
Tip: Print each fraction in a different color – it makes the pieces easier to tell apart and the whole set looks colorful and inviting.
Happy printing and learning! I'd love to see photos of your prints.
