A hand-cranked bench winder: the spool clamps between threaded cones on a spindle held at both ends, and a geared crank turns it at up to 2:1. The spool sits between two threaded cones on a spindle carried at both ends, so it holds firmly and runs balanced and true. The spindle drops into the slot and meshes with the crank gear. Rotating the crank clockwise keeps the spindle in place.
Also useful for winding Christmas lights, rope, yarn, string (you get the idea!)
