-----Hardware Required-----
1x: 8x10mm Spring
3x: 8x20mm Spring
2x: M3x6
1x: M3x12
4x: M3x20 (or M3x25)
9x: M3 Heat Set Inserts
Note:
The parts should be toleranced properly, but make sure everything that moves actually moves! feel free to test liberaly before you give this box to a victim a friend
-----Printing Suggestions-----
I used PETG, on 100% scaling with 4 walls and 15% adaptive cubic infill at 0.25mm layer height. Some parts may require a Brim (Slicer should auto detect)
If a part dosent fit properly, check for elefant's foot/printing artifacts. Should you have further issues, use sand paper to improve fitment.
The threads might be hard at first. Before assembly, spend a minute per thread to thread the part in, then out, then in, then out......
They should thread easily on final assembly
~8-10h print time, 1h assembly
-----Assembly Instructions-----
Insert 4x Heat Set Inserts into the bottom of the Center Part.
Insert 1x Heat Set Insert into the Top Button Plate.
Insert 2x Heat Set Inserts into the Bottom Center Screw.
Insert 2x Heat Set Inserts into the Top Retaining Plate.
Start with the Center Part
Insert the Core Cover into the Core Outer.
Screw the Core Assembly into the Center Part from the bottom. Insert the non-tapped part first.
Use the cutouts in the side of the Center Part to thread the Core Assembly in. Stop when it sits about 5mm short of flush with the top.
Take the Bottom Center Screw
Insert the two Sideward Pins into the cavity.
Press both pins outward with one 8x20mm spring.
Insert the Top Joiner into the cavity. Do not push hard. Too much force adds unnecessary friction to the spring. The Top Joiner should hold the spring in place, not crush it.
Take the Index Actuator. The Top Joiner holds the Index Actuator and Bottom Center Screw together.
Add M3x12 screws to permanently secure this assembly. This is now called the Bottom Screw Assembly.
Test the fit. The Sideward Pins must press in with little force.
Set the assembly aside for later use.
Take the Center Part again
Stand it up vertically, threads and screw holes facing up.
Insert the 8x20mm springs into the 8.5mm holes.
Insert a Button Down onto each spring.
Lay the Index Shell on top, concentric to the threads.
Lay the Index on top, concentric to the threads. Note: the Index has one orientation that lets both Button Down parts stand upright.
Carefully insert the Bottom End over all the parts.
Screw it in with 4x M3x20 screws.
Press both buttons to check the fit. They must press in with little force.
Take the Top Retaining Plate
Insert the Top Button.
Push an M3x12 bolt through the button. Use it to secure the Top Button Plate.
Rotate the parts so no part of the Top Button Plate extends past the perimeter of the Top Retaining Plate.
Take the Top Cap.
Insert an 8x10mm spring into the center of the Top Cap.
Insert the Top Retaining Plate into the Top Cap. Secure it with 2x M3x6 bolts.
Test the fit. The Top Button must press in with little force.
Set the assembly aside for later use.
Take the Center Part and insert the Bottom Screw Assembly into the threaded side
Wiggle it in. You will need to press the Sideward Pins in to clear the threads.
Both Button Down parts may need to be in the downward position for the Bottom Screw Assembly to thread in.
After a couple of rotations, the Sideward Pins may snap into their holes before the Bottom Screw Assembly sits flush. If this happens, use the Tools to press the Sideward Pins back in and continue rotating.
This step takes some patience.
Stand the Puzzle Box up, non-threaded side facing up
Insert both Tools into the top hole.
Slide the Top Cap over the top of the Center Part. You may need to push the Top Button up slightly to let the Top Cap fully seat.
Once assembled correctly, the Top Cap is no longer removable, and no printed parts are left over.
----Solution to opening the Box-----
just reverse the build guide lol. Except the screws. Leave those alone :)
