This model is an adaptation developed to visually represent the ICU Mobility Scale (IMS), a scale used to classify the mobility level of patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
The project was developed for Hospital Amecor, based on a weekly tracker model with sliding indicators. The original slider mechanism was retained as inspiration, while the rest of the design was completely remodeled for use in a hospital environment.
The scale has 11 levels, from 0 to 10, and each position includes:
The number corresponding to the IMS level;
A pictogram visually representing the activity/mobility level;
An individual sliding indicator;
Red and green visual signaling;
A dedicated structure for mounting and attachment.
The pictograms make it possible to quickly identify the progression of mobility, ranging from a patient who remains in bed to one who is capable of walking independently.
The goal is to provide a simple and quick bedside visual reference, facilitating communication among physiotherapists, nurses, physicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The indicator can be updated according to the patient's functional progress, making their mobility status easily identifiable during routine ICU care.
In addition to the change in purpose, several modifications were made compared with the model used as inspiration, including increasing the number of sliders from 7 to 11, completely redesigning the structure, adding levels 0–10, creating the pictograms, changing the overall dimensions, and developing a dedicated mounting system.
The project was designed to be simple, robust, highly visual, and easily reproducible through 3D printing.
Important: this model is a supplementary visual tool. It does not replace clinical assessment, the formal application of the ICU Mobility Scale, or documentation in the patient's medical record.
I am currently working on an improved version of the slider and will upload it as soon as possible.
