[Update 9/10/2026] The Mk. 2 Version of the Planetary Gear Fidget is now live. Design tweaks include longer and strengthened assembly screws, added holes to the planetary gears for aesthetics, and added a central free floating grip area in the middle to add in the expected spin functionality to this fidget. The dimensions of the sun gear's axle hole have changed slightly between versions to allow a strong enough grip shaft.
The Mk. 1 will remain available to download, but I would recommend using the separate .3mf file for the extended screws present in the Mk. 2.

Further gear research and a fun outlet to do it. This model features three planetary gears and a central sun gear held together by printed screws. All gears will spin if one gear is spun, and has been rated to be a very smooth and satisfying fidget by my wonderful friends and coworkers.

Assembly
Place all gears on their respective posts.
Insert the central threaded rod and place the sun gear in the center. This is the point in which you can align the holes on the gears to your liking.
Place the top piece, making sure to align all holes present. There should be next to no wiggle room for the gears. Remove the threaded rod temporarily. The sun gear will remain in place.
Use the provided screws to secure the top and bottom piece together. Screw heads should be flush with the top piece and all oriented in the same direction after tightening. If resistance is met while screwing in, loosen the screw, then continue screwing it down, as this usually overcomes the resistance.
Connect the two ends of the central grip post and thread together. Same rules apply when tightening as Step 4 minus the flush part.
