The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a NASA observatory designed to settle essential questions in dark energy and exoplanets and conduct wide‑field infrared surveys with a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble’s. The telescope has a primary mirror 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) in diameter, the same size as the Hubble Space Telescope's. The Roman Space Telescope will have two instruments: the Wide Field Instrument and the Coronagraph Instrument technology demonstration.
It is scheduled to launch on 30 August 2026 aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy. Roman will travel through space toward an orbital location called Lagrange Point 2, situated about a million miles (1.6 million km) from Earth. Its mission is planned for five years, though the U.S. space agency said the telescope may have enough fuel for five additional years.
