Ammo box for .22LR

A compact storage boxes for .22 LR ammunition. There are two versions: each can hold 4 or 8 removable inserts — 200/400 rounds total in one case.

It's designed around the plastic inserts that come with factory ammo boxes. Those vary slightly between manufacturers, so each slot has a small buffer in every direction to accommodate the differences. The trade-off is that inserts from the smaller brands sit with a little play. I solved that with a 2 mm sheet of hard foam glued to the inside of the lid — it takes up the vertical gap, keeps everything pressed down, and stops the rounds from rattling in transport. Cheap, and worth doing.

If you buy your ammo in bulk boxes, you won't have any inserts to reuse — so I've included a printable one. Print 4/8 of them and you're set. It holds the same 50 rounds and fits the slots properly, without the play you get from some factory trays.

There's also an optional seal that sits between the box and the lid. I printed mine in TPU. It's not needed for the box to work, but it keeps dust and moisture out if the case gets stored in a garage, a car, or a range bag.

I printed the whole set in PETG, but the box itself works in any material — PLA, PETG, ASA, whatever you have on hand.
