This 3D-printed frame-spacing gauge helps keep hive frames properly spaced and organized, making inspections and hive management smoother.
For a standard Langstroth-style system using self-spacing Hoffman frames, a useful design target is approximately 35 mm center-to-center. Standard bee-space between adjacent components is generally around 6–9 mm.
Configuration | Typical frames | Suggested center-tocenter | Spacing Approx. |
8-frame | 8 | 35 mm | 1.38 in |
9-frame | 9 | 35 mm | 1.38 in |
10-frame | 10 | 35 mm | 1.38 in |
Core settings
Layer height: 0.12–0.16 mm (0.4 mm nozzle). Finer layers give more accurate edges on gauge steps and curves.
Walls/perimeters: 4 (≈1.6 mm). Gauges are mostly measured at their surfaces, so strong walls beat dense infill.
Infill: 25–40% gyroid or grid — enough stiffness so it doesn't flex when you use it.
Speed: slow — 40–50 mm/s outer walls (or ~30 mm/s on the outer wall if your printer allows per-wall speeds). PETG gets sloppy and stringy at high speed.
Temperature: 235–245 °C nozzle, 75–80 °C bed. Print a temp tower first if you haven't dialed in your PETG.
Cooling: 30–50% fan. Full fan weakens PETG; too little rounds off sharp features
