Nanny Hushabye

“She was never hired to protect the children. She was brought here to protect the world from them.”

Long before the nursery filled with laughter, whispers and empty cradles, Nanny Hushabye was already waiting behind its doors.

No one knew who had employed her.

There were no letters of recommendation, no family records and no portraits bearing her face. She arrived one winter evening dressed in mourning black, carrying nothing but a ring of iron keys and a book of lullabies written in a language no one could read.

The children never feared her.

They followed her through the nursery corridors, gathered silently around her skirts and became still whenever she began to sing. Even the creatures hidden inside the walls seemed to retreat at the sound of her voice.

The household believed she was keeping the darkness away from them.

They were wrong.

Nanny Hushabye had not come to protect the children from the house. She had come to keep the children inside it.

Every arch surrounding her body was part of an ancient seal. Every ornament was a lock. The great circular frame behind her was not a halo, but a gate—and Nanny stood at its centre as both guardian and prisoner.

She covered her eyes because ordinary sight had become useless to her. Through the nursery walls, she could see every stolen soul, every creature beneath the floorboards and every wicked little thought forming inside the cradles.

For years, her lullabies kept them quiet.

Then Little Malachai Ringabell shook his rattle for the third time.

Something answered from below.

The seals cracked. The children awakened. And for the first time since her arrival, Nanny Hushabye stopped singing.

The household found her standing motionless before the nursery door, her keys scattered across the floor.

Behind her blindfold, she was weeping.

Not because she feared what had entered the house—

but because she knew what the children were about to release into the world.

Why print and collect Nanny Hushabye?

🕯 The guardian of The Little Blessings Collection — Nanny Hushabye connects the stories of the children and reveals the true purpose of their nursery.

⛪ A cathedral transformed into a prison — Her monumental gothic frame is both a sacred architectural display and the seal holding the darkness inside.

👁 A haunting faceless presence — Her covered eyes and motionless posture create an unsettling figure without relying on gore.

🖤 The final piece of the collection — Place her beside the Little Blessings as their eternal keeper—and the last barrier between their nursery and our world.
