Modular Stereo Camera Mount for any Camera with 1/4"-20 thread

Multi-view Camera System Based on 15mm Rods

This model contains clamps to mount cameras to a multi-view imaging system. This is particularly interesting in combination with older, high quality camcorders that are relatively cheap to acquire. Any camera with a standard 1/4" tripod mount can be used for this. 

Depending on the number of cameras and their configuration various imaging systems can be built out of these parts: With two cameras oriented horizontally to each other, a stereo camera (for normal 3D images) can be constructed. If more cameras are available and organized in a grid pattern, a light-field camera (allowing for readjusting the focus of the image after capture or slight changes in perspective) can be constructed.

In order to ensure alignment, the lens alignment pins are slightly wider than normal and beveled at the bottom, such that the camera should be self-aligning.

Additional Material Required

• 15 mm Rods, depending on the number of cameras and distances between cameras

• 1x Threaded Insert 1/4" x 6.4mm

• Optionally: 4x M3 threaded insert, 4x M3x20 screw

For each Camera:

• 1x 1/4-20 x1" Screw

Assembly

For the tripod mount:

• Print one clamp_tripod

• Insert the 1/4"x6.4mm threaded insert into the large central hole at the bottom of the clamp

• Optionally, if the fit is a bit loose: insert the threaded inserts into the bottoms of the four holes going through the clamp and screw in the M3 screws from the top.

For each Camera

• Print one camera_tripod

• Print one camera_clip

• Press the camera clip into the rectangular recess on the camera mount. The screw holes for the 1/4" screw should align.

• The camera can now be screwed on using the 1/4" screw

Final Assembly:

Place the tripod clamp centered on two 15mm rods. Place the camera clamps at positions where you plan on having cameras. 

For Stereo-Cameras: Placing the center of the camera lenses roughly at eye distance will lead to the most realistic results. Placing them further apart will cause miniaturization (Real objects may look like miniatures to the observer).
