I want to start this post by thanking this month's challenge. I never really explored how magic tricks are made and it was a fun discovery for me.
Sympathetic Match Boxes
This is a mesmerising magic trick in which two separated match boxes appear to open one another.

Also, if you want to understand how the trick works I advise this video, which was the one that inspired me to make the model. I must also say that the youtube channel "lets make magic" is great and deserves a shout out.

Printing
Now that introductions and acknowledgements are made lets dive into the practical things. For this build you will need:
Tape
Pliers
Strong glue
15cm of a strong thread (black or the colour of your match box)
Print settings:
Material: PLA
Layer: 0.2mm
Slicer supports: OFF (I designed custom ones)
Infill: 15%
Start by printing 4 of the "star" model. You only need two but having some extra ones will allow you to choose the one that fits best. Also, prepare 15cm of thread with a knot on each end.
Printing the two match boxes has several important steps:
Ensure fuzzy skin is enables on both "scratch sides" of the box.
Set a pause in printing just before the layer that covers the thread channel. For me that was layer 61 at 12.2 mm. See image:
During print, place the thread on the channel. Make sure it is flat with the surface. For the second box, as shown in the picture, hold the previous box with some tape on your build plate.
The supports are custom designed and can be removed by twisting them with some pliers.
Glue the end of the thread to the star.
You can also use the pliers to insert the star in the box, this will ensure it is well stuck.
If you managed so far you can print the two drawers and test the trick.
To print the storage box make sure the fuzzy skin is correctly set.
Break the pin of the connecting mechanism.
