Guitar Stand for Gibson Explorer — Split & One-Piece Bases
I printed this stand and use it for my Gibson Explorer T 2017.
A compact, floor-standing guitar stand designed for the Gibson Explorer, using the Explorer T 2017 as the reference. It should also be suitable for other guitars with a similar Explorer-style body shape and comparable dimensions. Compatibility with other models has not been verified: check body thickness, lower-body contour, balance, and clearance around the strap button and cable plug before use.
Asymmetric body supports follow the Explorer's lower outline, while a separate rear support steadies the instrument. The guitar lifts out freely: there is no retaining strap or clamp.
The rigid parts are PETG. Eight separately printed TPU pads cushion the contact areas. Integrated mounting studs locate the pads in recesses in the rigid parts. The upper flaps of the TPU pads must be folded over the PETG rims and glued in place.
Choose your version
Version | Nominal build plate | Printed parts | Base construction |
|---|---|---|---|
Small — split base | 220 × 220 mm | 5 PETG + 8 TPU | Two base halves, two hidden joint keys and a separate backrest |
Large — one-piece base | 350 × 350 mm | 2 PETG + 8 TPU | One integrated base and a separate backrest |
Both versions use the same backrest, TPU pads and four-bolt mounting hardware.
The large base measures 357 × 176 × 149.5 mm in assembly. Its print files are already rotated on the bed, reducing the print envelope to 340.7 × 340.6 × 149.5 mm.
Files and printing
Two nozzle options are provided as starting settings:
Part | Walls: 0.4 mm nozzle | Walls: 0.6 mm nozzle | Infill |
|---|---|---|---|
PETG bases | 3 | 2 | 20% gyroid |
PETG backrest | 6 | 5 | 20% gyroid |
PETG joint keys | 5 | 4 | 40% rectilinear |
TPU 90A pads | 3 | 2 | 20% gyroid |
0.4 mm nozzle: 0.24 mm layers, including the first layer, and 5 top/bottom layers.
0.6 mm nozzle: 0.30 mm layers and 4 top/bottom layers for the backrest, joint keys and pads. For the current base files, retain fixed 0.24 mm layers, including the first, and 5 top/bottom layers to preserve the built-in screw-head bridge transitions.
Additional materials
4 × M5×25 socket-head cap screws, DIN 912 / ISO 4762.
4 × M5 DIN 934 hex nuts: 8 mm across flats, 4 mm high.
Adhesive suitable for bonding your TPU to PETG, for securing the pads' upper flaps.
Assembly
For the split version, join the base halves on a flat surface and insert both keys from above.
Place the backrest over the mounting locations. Insert the four nuts into its hexagonal pockets and the screws from underneath. Tighten evenly without crushing the plastic; verify thread engagement and that all screw heads are recessed above the floor.
Dry-fit the TPU wall pads and rear panel first, seating their mounting studs in the matching recesses. Fold the upper flaps over the PETG rims and glue them down. Keep adhesive on the hidden TPU-to-PETG interface, away from surfaces that touch the guitar, and allow it to cure fully according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
Install the floor pads last. The left floor pad is one flexible piece that bends to follow its seat.
