A compact mechanical puzzle box designed to challenge your logic and curiosity.
Despite being made from just a few simple parts, it can be surprisingly tricky to figure out.
The box opens through a sequence of movements – no force, no tools, just understanding the mechanism.
Its simplicity is exactly what makes it so effective.
✨ Features:
Very simple design with only a few parts
Surprisingly challenging to solve
No supports required
Easy assembly
Great as a gift or desk toy
⚙ Print Settings & Notes:
The model can be scaled freely, but always scale all parts uniformly.
Maintaining the same scale across every part is essential to preserve clearances and ensure proper fit and function.
The BOX_PART.stl may be prone to corner lifting and slight warping.
To prevent this, improve bed adhesion (e.g., using 3DLAC spray or a similar product).
Additional tips to reduce warping:
Use fewer perimeters and lower infill for the box part
Recommended settings for BOX_PART.stl:
2 perimeters
10% infill
For PIN_PART.stl, increase strength:
Recommended: 4–5 perimeters
These settings help ensure proper function and durability of the mechanism.
🔧 Additional Requirements: glue

Assembly Instructions:

.
.
Apply a small amount of glue (IMPORTANT!), because if you apply too much, inserting the PIN PART may force the glue out, which could cause parts that must remain separate / freely movable to become glued together.
.
.
.
.
.
Now work quickly so the glue doesn’t dry.
Do not use any glue anymore — the only gluing was done at the beginning of the assembly!!!
.

.
.
Place the MID PART so that the lock snaps into its designated slot.

Prepare the FLAT PART

.

.
Insert it into the circular cutout of the mid part.stl component.

Close it with the UPPER PART component.

Assembly video guide:
The box is now assembled, and the fun part begins. The upper part can rotate freely, but the mid part is locked in place and cannot be slid open.
To open the box, follow these steps:
Set the upper part to its default closed position.
Turn the entire box upside down.
This causes the flat part to drop from its original position in the mid part into a new position in the upper part.At this point, rotate the upper part slightly to prevent the flat part from falling back into the mid part.
Now turn the box back to its normal orientation (base at the bottom, moving parts on top).
If the flat part remains in its new position within the upper part and the upper part is rotated out of alignment, the mid part is no longer locked.
The mid part can now be slid open, and the box is unlocked.
