Anti-Theft Bicycle Bolt Covers – Protective Security Plugs

A set of small protective plugs designed to fit into compatible bicycle bolt recesses, providing an additional layer of theft deterrence by restricting access to the fasteners securing your bike components.

These covers are intended to make it more difficult to remove bicycle parts using conventional tools. They are protective accessories only and are not replacements for original bolts, fasteners, or other structural hardware.

The plugs are designed to be removable using a heated metal needle or nail, allowing you to access the original fasteners when maintenance or adjustment is required.

Installation and Removal

Installation:

1. Ensure the original bicycle fasteners are properly installed and tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.

2. Select a plug that fits the bolt recess securely.

3. Press the plug into the recess until it is seated.

4. Verify that the plug does not interfere with nearby components, moving parts, or the normal operation of the bicycle.

Removal:

1. Carefully heat the tip of a metal needle or nail.

2. Insert the heated tip into the center of the plastic plug, allowing the plastic to soften around the metal.

3. Allow the metal and surrounding plastic to cool completely so the plug grips the inserted needle or nail.

4. Once cooled, gently pull the needle or nail outward to extract the plug from the bolt recess.

5. Remove any remaining plastic before accessing the original fastener.

Safety: Use appropriate heat-resistant tools and exercise caution when handling heated metal. Avoid touching the hot needle or nail, and keep heat away from painted surfaces, carbon-fiber components, cables, and other heat-sensitive bicycle parts. Do not heat the bicycle's original fastener directly.

Recommended Print Settings

Materials: TPU, PETG, or nylon are recommended for outdoor exposure.

• TPU provides flexibility and can accommodate minor variations in bolt recess dimensions.

• PETG offers a balance of durability, rigidity, and ease of printing.

• Nylon provides toughness and wear resistance but may require additional printing preparation.

Print a single test plug before printing the complete set. Verify the bolt recess diameter, plug fit, and installation clearance.

The plugs should fit securely without requiring excessive force that could damage the original fastener or surrounding components.

Usage and Maintenance

1. Install the plugs only over properly secured original fasteners.

2. Ensure the covers do not interfere with moving parts, adjustment mechanisms, or normal bicycle operation.

3. Inspect the plugs periodically, particularly after riding, and replace any that become loose, damaged, or lost.

4. Remove the plugs before performing maintenance that requires access to the covered fasteners.

5. Do not rely on these covers as your bicycle's primary theft-prevention system. Continue using appropriate bicycle locks and security measures.
