Introducing the second generation of my poleaxe!
This poleaxe head and spear tip are meant for SCA two-handed Cut & Thrust and HEMA; gauntlets or lacrosse gloves are recommended. These fall under the SCA's ongoing Non-Metal Polearm Experiment; use for thrust only on the rapier field and at your marshal's discretion. Have fun and don't break your friends!
These parts are designed to fit a 1.25" (32mm) shaft. Threaded spear tip base for added friction. Two pins to prevent spear tip removal; they only work when the pin ends are melted.
Print Instructions:
Print out of TPU for sparring. Standard infill of 15% and 0.20mm layer thickness with gyroid infill results in a safe flex for playing without gambesons. Add supports to the corners of the spear tip and the pole axe as needed. Print at an angle for a durability increase.
Assembly Instructions:
1) Screw the tip into the base until the holes align, don't over tighten.
2) Insert pins into the two holes, they will go in with hand pressure unless the tip is over tightened; use pliers or hook to assist.
3) Pull ends of pins so they are all the way through.
4) Using a flat heat source (soldering iron, wood burning tool, heated knife,...) flatten the pins but don't melt them onto the base; easier to remove when tip needs replacing.
To remove the spear tip simply clip off the pins.
