Tilt hydrometers are great for home brewing. Simply float them in the fermenter and get temperature and specific gravity readings so you can track fermentation progress without having to open the fermenter (and risk contamination).
The Tilts turn on automatically when inverted or laying down. So, it is important to store them upright (battery end up), so they stay turned off and do not consume the battery unnecessarily.
Spare opening can hold spare gaskets.
