MakerTray - A Simple Desktop Storage Tray
MakerTray is a storage solution I made to organize some of the small and random stuff I have lying across my desk.

Overview:
Consists of two pieces. the case and the tray which goes inside it. I only have mostly small parts like screws, tiny screwdrivers, leds, resistors, caps and a couple pi zeros so I deesigned it in such a way that it becomes easier and less hassle free to store this stuff.
The case is about 210 x 160 x 27mm.
Features:
Storage Compartments
The removable tray has multiple compartments for keeping different types of items separated.
The different sections can be used for things like:
- screws - LEDs - resistors - USB drives - small electronics parts - stationery - basically any other small stuff
I made the compartments different shapes and sizes so the tray isnt just one big empty section.

^^ removable tray, pull tab for easy access
How to Print:
The project is provided as two printable stl files, and step files if yall wanna many any modiications.
Recommended Orientation:
The tray should be printed with its flat bottom on the base of the print bed, but I will be completely honest im not really sure how to print the case. I think it would be best printed pointing up, instead of lying flat cuz of the central area having a lack of support. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Starting Settings
These are just the settings i'd start with. I havent tested them myself yet since i dont have a printer.
- layer height: 0.2 mm
- walls/perimeters: 3
- infill: around 15-20%
- material: PLA
- supports: hopefully none, but check your slicer first
Since i havent actually printed this yet, the exact settings will probably depend on the printer and filament being used. I'd also recommend checking both parts in your slicer before printing, especially around the honeycomb section and the inside of the case.
Assembly:
basically none, just put the pieces inside!
Future Improvements:
There are a few things i'd like to try in future versions. Some ideas are:
- smaller removable trays
- different compartment layouts
- more sizes of trays - a better pull handle
- a tighter or more customizable fit
- a lid for the outer case
- different honeycomb patterns
-changes based on actual print testing
The main thing i'd like to do next is make a few different tray layouts for different uses, since the same case could potentially work with different inserts. I'd also like to test the fit properly once i actually have a 3D printer.
