This is a face turning rhombic dodecahedron which combines the cut depths of the Master Little Chop and the Toru. The mechanism is, at its core, a Master Little Chop with a slice layer cut into it. The width of the slice layer is the distance between the MLC cut depth and the Toru cut depth.
The puzzle contains 543 printed pieces, of which 133 are hidden. This is by far the largest and most complicated puzzle I have ever built. The turning is decent, but there is room for improvement. Some of the slice pieces are prone to catching on the underlying MLC mechanism and spinning in place (you can see me struggle through this a bit in the turning demo). I think there is an easy fix for this that I’ll implement if I ever get around to making a version 2.
Given the complexity, I do not recommend building this unless you are well experienced with printing and assembling complicated shells-type twisty puzzles. I recommend assembling and breaking in the Master Little Chop portion of the mechanism before adding the slice pieces. You may need to partially disassembly the MLC in order to slot in all of the remaining parts. Printing the "capped" centers is recommended to aid with assembly and tensioning. Beware of chiral parts which appear very similar externally but are actually mirror images of each other.
In addition to printed parts, you'll need 12ea M3x0.5mm flat head screws, 30mm long, standard flat head profile with a 90 degree countersink angle. Recommend McMaster p/n 91294A141 or similar.
