A satisfying desktop clicker fidget built around a mechanical keyboard switch. Press it, hear the click, and keep your hands busy while you work, study, or think.

What you need

  • 1x Gateron switch (or any compatible MX-style switch, such as Cherry MX or Kailh)

  • PLA filament

  • A 3D printer

A clicky or tactile switch (Blue/Brown type) gives the most satisfying feel. Linear switches work too, but they’re much quieter.

Parts

  • Base

  • Letters

  • Top piece (the one you press)

Print settings (what I used)

  • Material: PLA

  • Infill: 15%

  • Supports: base and letters print without supports. The top piece needs supports.

Assembly

  1. Print all parts.

  2. Remove the supports from the top piece and clean up any rough spots.

  3. Press the switch into the base until it clicks into place.

  4. Attach the top piece onto the switch stem.

  5. Add the letters.

Source file (FreeCAD)
The original FreeCAD project file (.FCStd) is included, so you can open it, edit it, and make your own version. With it you can:

  • Change or replace the letters with your own text or initials

  • Adjust tolerances if your printer runs tight or loose

  • Modify the base and top piece to fit other switch types

Made with FreeCAD 1.1.4. If you can’t open the file, the STL files are ready to print as they are.

Tips

  • Test-fit the switch before final assembly. If it feels loose or too tight, adjust the tolerance or lightly sand the opening.

  • Choose support settings that leave a clean surface on the top piece, since that’s the part your fingers touch.

  • Try different filament colors for the base, letters, and top piece for contrast.

Remixing: Feel free to remix and modify it. Please credit the original and post a make if you print one!
