Living in a rural area there are often broken down vehicles that end up on the side of the road for a couple days at a time, and especially as the autumn days get shorter, they can pose a bit of a hazard on narrow roads. To help increase visibility I wanted to create an easily made flasher that could last for a couple days that could be left on the vehicle. The idea being it is cheap enough to not worry about getting back.

I settled on a design using two 5mm Blinking Diffused Lens Round DC 2V 20mA LEDwith a 9 volt battery. You just insert the LED leads through the holes, being mindful of which side is positive (the longer lead) and twist the like leads together, Then give them a little bend and insert the tips into the holes on the tabs. This helps align them to make contact with the battery terminals.

The battery just inserts from the bottom and the base slips under the battery to hold it in. It holds things pretty well but allows for easy removal to turn it off. In my case I plan on it running til dead so I was not planning on an on/off switch, though I did leave enough gap in the top to add a photosensor in the future so it can turn off in daylight.

I let one run til dead and got about 3 days of runtime on two LEDs which should work well for roadside vehicles since they are usually removed after a couple days.
