You can use glow-in-the-dark filament or paint for the flames, or wire it up with LEDs to get that candle-like glow.

It looks like just about every culture has some sort of weird and gruesome object made with people parts that always has me wondering who was on hallucinogens and why has this been handed down from generation to generation. And here is one of those things: the hand of glory. This is an object made with the left hand of a hanged murderer, pickled/dried, then somehow set alight with various hard-to-get fats (what even is 'virgin wax'?), and according to one interpretation of a recipe, horse dung. And somehow carrying this around like a candelabra is supposed to freeze anyone that its light falls on.

Moving on.

The hand has the following features:

  • It measure 223 mm from stump to middle finger

  • It comes with a handy-dandy screw-in plug to hide a 2032 coin cell or AA battery

  • The flames come in two sizes: the shorter one can accommodate a 3mm LED

  • There are channels from fingertips to the base of the stump for any wiring you may chose to do

  • Or you can use glow-in-the-dark paint or filament for the flames to light this up without electronics and use the cavity to ... I dunno, hide small items? I intended to wire this up but I'm actually pretty lousy with a soldering iron.

I painted this version with a mix of acrylic gesso and paint. The outer layers of paint also have baking soda mixed in the create the dry dusty texture you get with air-dry mummification. I also dabbed on a little bit of glow-in-the-dark paint to simulate some of the phosphorescent molds, because I get the sense that a lot of western Europe gets a bit damp.
