🐾 Jack Russell Terrier

The Jack Russell Terrier is a small, bold, and tireless working terrier that originated in southern England in the nineteenth century. It was developed by the Reverend John Russell, a keen huntsman, to run with foxhounds and bolt foxes from their underground dens.

Jack Russells are famous for their huge personalities packed into compact bodies. Today, they are admired as clever, cheerful companions and remarkable athletes that excel in many dog sports.

🐶 Appearance & Personality

Coat: Comes in smooth, broken, or rough varieties, all dense and weatherproof. The coat is predominantly white with tan, black, or brown markings, usually on the head and around the tail.
Build: Small, sturdy, and well-muscled, with a flexible chest that could be spanned by two hands. It is built for agility, endurance, and digging.
Expression: Keen, alert, and intelligent, always ready for the next adventure.
Face: Dark, almond-shaped eyes and small V-shaped ears that fold forward close to the head.
Tail: A strong, high-set tail carried proudly upright when the dog is moving.
Temperament: Jack Russells are fearless, lively, and devoted to their people. They are independent and determined, with a strong hunting instinct that makes small animals hard to resist.

🎾 Activity & Companionship

Jack Russell Terriers need plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom.

They love chasing balls, digging, agility, flyball, and exploring outdoors with their family.

They can be affectionate family dogs for active households, especially with older children who play respectfully.

Training should start early and stay fun, consistent, and reward-based, as these smart terriers can be strong-willed.

💪 Health & Care

Exercise: High — long walks, active games, and puzzle toys every day.
Coat care: Weekly brushing, with occasional hand-stripping for rough and broken coats.
Diet: A balanced, high-quality diet for small, active dogs, avoiding overfeeding.
Health: Typically lives 13–16 years. Common concerns include patellar luxation, Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, primary lens luxation, and congenital deafness. Regular veterinary care helps keep Jack Russells healthy and energetic for many years.

🌍 Fun Facts
