The aim of this project is to transform a walker into a makeshift table for those who can no longer walk or sit properly. I made this for a family member who is bedridden and can only sit at the edge of the bed. Lacking a proper table to eat on, I designed this model to transform her old walker into a table. She has been using it for a few weeks and likes it very much. I printed it with PETG and it still holds strong and durable.

I tried to make it as universal as possible, but you might need to adjust the parameters to your needs or resize some parts of it, like the Peg.

Adjusting the parameters:

You will need FreeCAD to adjust the parameters.

  • ClampOverShootAngle: Determines how much the clamp should wrap around the frame. So the total angle will be this value * 2 + 180

  • ClampWidthAroundFrame: Wall width of the model.

  • Height: Total height of the model. Make it at least 10mm.

  • Length: Total length of the model

  • ScrewHoleDiameter: Screw size to use for fastening the clamp.

  • WalkerFrameRadius: Radius of the walker frame/rod you will attach the clamp to.

You will probably need to change the Length and WalkerFrameRadius to fit your own walker. You might also need to adjust the Peg model as well to fit your own tray.

Printing:

  • No supports required.

  • 0.2 mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle recommended.

  • Use PETG or a stronger material.

  • Print one Holder and one peg per walker leg/rod (Total: 4-4).

Assembly:

  1. Insert the Peg into the Holder.

  2. Snap them onto one of the walker legs. I recommend putting it above cross section bars, so there is no way of it sliding down.

  3. Tighten the clamps with a screw and nut.

After doing all 4 of the legs, you can move the pegs inside the holder to fit any tray that has a curly edge. Snapping the pegs under those curles or onto them should secure it in place.
