This is a custom ergonomic shifter knob created from the shape of my actual hands.

Unlike a conventional shifter knob designed only by modeling its exterior shape, these versions were developed from real physical hand grips. The goal was to create a functional handle where the fingers, palm and thumb naturally fall into position.

Two separate versions are included:

  • Orange – Right Hand

  • Green – Left Hand

The left-hand version is NOT a mirrored copy of the right-hand model. Each grip was created independently using a separate real hand impression and a separate 3D scan.

Development Process

Both models were created using the same physical ergonomic workflow:

  1. A simple base shape was designed and 3D printed.

  2. The prototype was covered with modeling clay.

  3. I gripped the handle naturally with my actual hand, creating real impressions of the fingers, palm and thumb.

  4. Separate impressions were created for the right and left hands.

  5. Each resulting shape was captured using a Revopoint 3D scanner.

  6. The raw scans were cleaned and refined in Blender while preserving the important ergonomic features of the real hand impressions.

  7. The meshes were optimized to reduce unnecessary geometry while keeping the original ergonomic shape.

  8. The mounting section and thread were completed in SolidWorks.

  9. Physical prototypes were printed and tested before preparing the final versions.

The result is not a decorative or randomly sculpted shape. The geometry comes directly from real human hand impressions and was then refined into practical, 3D-printable parts.

Right-Hand Version

The orange version is designed specifically for the right hand.

Its finger grooves, palm support and thumb area are based directly on my real right-hand impression.

Left-Hand Version

The green version is designed specifically for the left hand.

It was created from a completely separate impression of my actual left hand and its own 3D scan.

It is not a mirrored or automatically generated copy of the right-hand version.

Custom Sizes

If the standard size is too large or too small for your hand, feel free to contact me.

I can prepare a smaller or larger version according to your requirements.

The ergonomic grip can be resized while keeping the mounting interface correctly sized, so the entire model does not need to be scaled together.

Printing

The models are designed for FDM printing.

If you are unsure about the size, I recommend printing a quick test version first to check how the grip fits your hand.

Both versions were created from real hand impressions, 3D scanned, manually refined and physically tested.
