I saw K2 having a sliding door, and wanted one for the AD5mpro it only needs a rail, if you can do it in laser cutting.

AD5M Pro Sliding Door Mod – V2 (Work in Progress)

I wanted to create a sliding door solution without modifying the original printer door. The original hinges are already perfectly positioned, with the correct clearance and opening angle, so I didn't see any reason to replace or modify them. All the printer really needed was an internal rail system.

Design & Features

  • Original hinges retained: No modifications needed to the original door or hinges.

  • Sliding rail system: An internal rail allows the door to slide smoothly.

  • Dual opening: The door can slide open from the front or slide backwards, giving you full access for open-door printing and maintenance.

  • Custom panels: The window panels and rails are laser-cut acrylic or plywood.

  • Additional magnets: The door is slightly heavier than the original, so extra magnets are needed to keep it securely closed.

  • Hardware: Flat-head M3 screws are required to mount the rail system.

V2 – Current Development

I've already gone through three iterations of the design (yes, I was bored!).

V2 is now updated, and I'll upload some pictures soon. The only part I'm still working on is the rail guide that connects to the original hinges. Everything else is coming together nicely.

Possible V3

I'm also considering a V3 with a fully 3D-printed construction. The idea would be to split the design into four printable pieces to fit smaller printer beds and reduce the overall weight. The only non-printed parts would be the acrylic windows.

I genuinely love the sliding door design. It keeps the original hinges, gives you more flexibility when accessing the printer and doesn't require permanently modifying the original door.

More updates coming soon!
