The controller emulator software provides you with a virtual touchpad and virtual buttons on the screen of a secondary phone. Unfortunately, if you are actually using your phone in a headset for Daydream, you can't actually see the screen of this secondary phone; this makes it hard to find the outlines of the touchpad and buttons.
This clip-on case makes that somewhat easier. It also has little indented markers to distinguish the App button from the Home button, although really the position usually suffices for this.

I printed this in ABS. I assume it would also work in PLA, but you might have trouble with the flexibility of the "clip" portion of the case. It's pretty stiff in ABS.
