I am a big fan of the Survival Story of a Sword King in a Fantasy World web comic. The sword was created by the elf king for Ryu Hanbin (the main character of the story). I drew up this sword design using onshape.com, which I am able to use for free as a non commercial user.
The scabbard and guard connect using little 3mm x 2mm magnets, that I had purchased for a build I did earlier (the puzzle of evil). They are easy to find on amazon.
The handle and guard are glued together with superglue.
The fit for the guard and blade is meant to be a friction fit. It is a bit tight at first, but loosens up if you work it a bit.

(Spoiler alert): in the story Ryu breaks his original sword and uses the stub of it for a time. Later the senile elf king bonds the stub of his former sword to a scabbard made from the roots of the world tree. The main character doesn't discover until much later that the wooden sword made by the elf tree is actually a scabbard for a blood stone made from his own life energy. Thus this sword includes the wooden scabbard, the original broken sword and the blood stone blade hidden inside.
