A simple, small, and accurate circle tool that you can easily fit into a pencil case.

I designed it for young children (and not only for them), as they often have trouble using a compass.

Unlike a compass, this tool eliminates the risk of injuring yourself or accidentally making a hole in your desk. It's completely safe to use! :)

What and how to draw

Two modes for drawing:

  1. Place your finger on the circular head to fix its position. Insert a pencil into the desired hole and rotate the pencil.
  2. Insert one pencil into the circular head and another pencil into the desired hole, then rotate the pencil.

Personally, I prefer the first method, and so does my child. :)

With this tool, you can draw accurate circles ranging from 10, 12, 14, 16, ..., up to 104 millimeters in diameter. While it may seem simple to design with a rectangular pattern in software like Fusion 360, this approach won't work (except for the middle line) because the hole must be positioned at the correct distance from the center of the circular head. Check the last picture to see what I mean.

Printing

Print without supports. PETG is preferred because it is flexible, and children enjoy its flexibility :) However, other materials will likely work as well. The top surface will probably look better if printed with PLA.

There are three files, all included in the 3MF file. Simply delete the ones you don't need. The only difference between them is the hole sizes: 1.6 mm, 1.8 mm, and 2 mm, depending on the use case. A 1.6 mm hole works well for pencils, 2 mm is better for pens, and 1.8 mm is a versatile option

Hint

If printed with PETG, briefly expose it to a flame, such as a stove burner, to remove any small PETG strings.
