My son has an off-brand power wheels jeep and in the summer the sun is a bit much even with a hat on. The solution I came up with is a soft-top designed around cheap 11mm fiberglass tent poles, marine snap buttons, and a canvas painter's dropcloth. All of which can be found on Amazon for a few bucks.
The included files are the mounting brackets for the 11mm fiberglass frame.
All printed parts were:
- 0.2mm Z
- 25% infill gyroid
- Hatchbox gray PLA @205C
- Brims and supports as needed.
The front brackets are unique to this particular toy car and snap into holes meant for rear mirrors. You could just as easily print out two extra rear brackets and mount them to the front end. All of my tolerances were tight enough to friction fit the fiberglass tent poles in place.
I have not yet finished stitching up the canvas but am doing so on a basic sewing machine. The canvas will fold over the frame at the edges and be secured in place with snaps. Likewise the wall panels will have snaps at the bottom which attach to the body panels. These updates will follow later, but I will include a very rough sketch of the canvas sewing pattern. The windows will be open holes with hemmed edges, while the rear door above the gate will be a roll-up section. Any loose areas can be secured with 1cm canvas ties sewed into the seams and tied around the poles.
