The Ender 3 S1 Pro comes with a sprite extruder, which is overall not a bad piece of kit. However, the probe is mounted quite far away from the nozzle on the Y axis.

This makes it impossible for the bed mesh to correctly account for any “unevenness” issues which are caused by the bed movement as opposed to the bed flatness itself. For example, if your rollers are slightly out of round (a common issue), causing the bed to slightly rise and fall as it moves, the offset probe will fail to account for this, and could even make it worse, as the bed will move to a different location when aligning the probe offset with the nozzle.

This mount moves the probe to the right-hand side of the extruder, and is perfectly inline with the nozzle. This means that the bed doesn't need to move at all between the probe measurement and the nozzle location. It also gives you a larger print area, with only 30mm on the left side of the bed un-probable, but everywhere else can be probed.

The mount is also much stiffer than the mount on the extruder.

Installation Instructions

It will be necessary to get a longer cable for the CRTouch, or cut and splice the cable to make it longer.

To attach the mount to the extruder, replace two of the screws with 10mm countersunk M3 screws. The holes are calibrated to the correct depth that they are still perfectly tight against the extruder, and will not cause reduced integrity of the extruder mount.

To attach the CRTouch to the mount, use M3 screws and nuts (screws pointing down, nuts on the CRTouch side)

IMPORTANT: You also need to update your firmware with the new probe location, or else it cannot accurately probe the bed. These values are X=39 and Y=0. In Klipper you update this by editing your printer.cfg file, and in Marlin you can update it by running:

M851 X39 Y0
M500
