For a project I used a GPIO extention cable with surplus addon headers. To prevent shorts in the unused header, I've designed a simple blocking plug.
I've printed this in PLA with 0.15 layer height. The plug is not full depth so you can use a flat screwdriver to pinch it open from the large vertical slot.
