See the youtube video for details.
The extruder requires three or six MF85ZZ flanged bearings and three or six countersunk M3 screws. The flanges on the bearings need to be ground to 9.1mm diameter edges. Alternatively, pick your own bearings and edge diameter and change the parameters in the FreeCAD file. (Very helpful if you accidentally grind an edge too small!)
If you have a Dremel style rotary tool, use the bearing grinder model to build a tool to help grind the bearings. Alternatively see my youtube video for a simple way to grind them.
Ideally the flanges are ground on both faces to make a V shape. It is possible instead to grind just the outer face and make a \| shape if using the six bearing model.
Either buy a hollow shaft stepper motor (we are working with LDO to make a custom stepper motor available specifically for VDE) or drill your own 2mm hole. The drill guide model can help with drilling the hole.
Mount the bearings using the M3 screws and press the entire assembly onto the stepper motor shaft. For the six bearing model, mount the bearings back to back.
Prusa i3 mk3 mount
Print the extruder body, cover and clip parts to mount it on a Prusa i3 style printer. (The clip will need sizing for your stepper motor and the hole spacing in the extruder cover part may also need changing.)
Legacy
My original Carrier-9.5.stl model requires 2 MF95ZZ bearings and 1 MR105ZZ bearing and three small M3 screws. The MF95ZZ bearings have flanges which need to be ground to 9.5mm diameter edges. They are mounted opposite ways up.
