Blinking Owl Gift Card

This is a gift card with a gear train to make the owl’s eyes blink and make an object move in the sky. By default, a cloud reveals the moon, but you can create your own creative background.

It is set up, that you can 3D print the whole gift card or paint your own background on some thick paper /thin cardboard (max 0.5mm thick), as you can see on the side-by-side comparison.

The gift card allows for a personal message in the free space under the tree and a conveniently located pocket hole makes it possible to hang the card on the wall.

Printing Tips:

I uploaded prusa slicer project files for the 3D printed background and lever for the eyes with colour changes at the right layer height.

If you decide to print the background, make sure to use opaque filament. Since it incorporates 4 colour changes within 0.5mm the individual colours are only 0.1mm thick.

Print the cloud and sled in the same colour since the sled could shine through the cloud.

Assembly Tips:

Remove the seams of the bearing surfaces of the gears and use some lubrication for a satisfying movement.
